Tips for Your Business
How to Save on Heating and Cooling Costs
Keeping your business cool in the summer and warm in the winter while remaining efficient is easy with these energy-saving HVAC tips:
- Change or clean air filters every month.
- Clean all heat exchanger surfaces, refrigerant and water coils, condensers and evaporators.
- Use fans since they reduce the need for air conditioning.
- If possible, ensure economizer mode is operating properly.
- Install a programmable thermostat to automate your HVAC system.
- Plug leaks with weather stripping and caulking.
- Replace air conditioning units of 5.4 tons or less with units with a seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) of 14.0 or more. For air conditioning units equal to greater than 5.4 ton, replace with units with a high energy efficiency ratio of 10.2 or more. You’ll reduce operating costs for the life of the unit.
- Use shades and blinds to control direct sun through windows in both summer and winter to prevent or encourage heat gain.
- Make sure that areas in front of vents are clear since you can use 25 percent more energy to distribute air if your vents are blocked.
